Solar Viewing: Looking at The Sun

Join astronomers from the Dunlap Institute to safely look at the surface of the sun! Astronomers will bring telescopes equipped with solar filters, so come join us to view sunspots, solar prominences and more. Astronomers leading the viewing will describe what participants are looking at, and explain the scientific principles behind the phenomena they are viewing. They will also explain how to safely view the sun with solar viewers and other methods and what to expect to see during a solar eclipse.

 

This program takes place outside Richview library, in the back parking lot off Summitcrest Drive. *In case of bad weather, an alternative eclipse related program will take place inside in Program Room A, 2nd floor.*

A limited number of eclipse glasses will be available for program attendees.

The Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto is an endowed research institute dedicated to innovative technology, ground-breaking research, world-class training, and public engagement.
