Solar Viewing: Look at the surface of the sun

Join astronomers from the Dunlap Institute to safely look at the surface of the sun! Astronomers will bring telescopes equipped with solar filters, so come join us to view sunspots, solar prominences and more. Astronomers leading the viewing will describe what participants are looking at, and explain the scientific principles behind the phenomena they are viewing. They will also explain how to safely view the sun with solar viewers and other methods and what to expect to see during a solar eclipse.

Note, this program takes place outdoors and is dependent on good weather, so please register. In case of bad weather, an alternative eclipse-related program will take place.

Did you know there is a solar eclipse on April 8, 2024? This program celebrates the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. A limited number of eclipse glasses will be available for program attendees.
