Our May book club selection is The Ugly American by William Lederer & Eugene Burdick. A piercing expose of American incompetence and corruption in Southeast Asia, the novel captivated the nation when first published in 1958. The authors draw an incisive portrait of American foreign policy gone disastrously wrong—and how it might be fixed. Filmed in 1963 with Marlon Brando.
